OUR STORY

GENERATIONS IN THE MAKING

  • L.A. Lepiane, Italian immigrant holding hands with his son in Hollister, CA circa 1900

Luigi A. Lepiane immigrated to California from Piane Crati, Calabria in 1885. Where he established a General Store and butchery.

  • After working as a winemaster for Hollister Winery, Luigi established his own winery, L.A. Lepiane in 1935.

  • Luigi never fully realized his dream to produce and sell wine under his own name. He passed away in 1938 after a year-long battle with cancer.

  • Three generations later Luigi's dream was resurrected by his great-granddaughter when in 2013 she began crafting Italian varietal wines under his name in Santa Barbara County, California.

What people are saying

"The Lepiane Nebbiolo is to my mind the most expressive and best varietally typical nebbiolo wine I have tasted in California. If this 2013 wine is an example, Alison Thomson will go far in winemaking in California.

DARRELL CORTI, CORTI BROTHERS

"L.A. Lepiane makes a convincing case for Italian varieties in California’s Central Coast."-2018 Winemaker to Watch

Esther Mobley, San Francisco Chronicle

"Her Nebbiolo is an example of compelling perfumed perfection."
