
2022 Barbera, Happy Canyon
Details
The fruit comes from a beautifully isolated and pristine SIP certified vineyard on the eastern end of Santa Ynez Valley. All hand-picked in the early morning and destemmed into 1.5 T open-top fermenter. After 3 days of cold soaking, the fermentation kicked off without the addition of commercial yeasts. Gentle punch downs were utilized to keep the cap wet, typically just once per day. After 26 days the must was basket pressed into neutral barrels where it aged without racking for 20 months. It was bottled without fining or filtration in September 2024.
Leading with aromas of red current, blackberry and bay leaf, mossy earth, there’s a focused complexity.
The fruit carries into the mouth, and is supported by a plush midpalate, dusty fine tannin, and a refreshingly bright finish.
